Protecting Our Protectors
Mental Health and Wellness for Law Enforcement
Service Description
Protecting Our Protectors: Mental Health and Wellness for Law Enforcement is a comprehensive training program developed by 1st Source Defense, LLC to address the mental-health, wellness, crisis-response, leadership, and organizational challenges facing today's law-enforcement professionals. Law-enforcement officers are trained to respond when others are experiencing their most difficult moments. Yet repeated exposure to trauma, critical incidents, violence, loss, organizational stress, shift work, public scrutiny, and the demands of the profession can also affect the people behind the badge. Protecting Our Protectors is designed to help change that conversation. What the Program Addresses; Protecting Our Protectors explores critical issues affecting officers throughout their careers, including occupational and cumulative stress, trauma exposure, hypervigilance, sleep and fatigue, burnout, compassion fatigue, moral injury, depression and anxiety indicators, emotional withdrawal, substance misuse, family and relationship strain, suicide risk, crisis communication, de-escalation, peer support, supervisor responsibility, organizational culture, officer retention, referral systems, and community partnerships. The program also examines an important question: What can officers, supervisors, and agencies do before an officer reaches a point of crisis?
